Diary of an Insurer: Ticker’s Rachel Green

Rachel Green diary

Rachel Green, fraud manager at connected motor insurer Ticker, catches the “bad guys”, digs deep into the data, judges developments shaping the industry, trains the in-house AI fraud detection system, and ends the week with a trip to a tumble class.

Monday

My week begins with an early alarm and half an hour of peace and mindfulness before the stampede: two hungry and excitable girls charging downstairs like a herd of elephants.

After a whirlwind of negotiating, multitasking and conflict resolution, we’re in the car and chatting about everything under the sun.

They’re fascinated by the work I do. In their eyes, I’m the ultimate detective and they love telling their friends how mummy catches ‘the bad guys’ and puts them on the naughty list.

My work day starts with a quick check-in with the team. Staying connected is vital when I’m working remotely.

Then I’m getting into the data: reviewing our sales and fraud dashboards for any spikes in suspicious activity. Real-time monitoring keeps us agile and responsive. KPIs follow, ensuring our intelligence sources and models are performing as expected.

The rest of the day is about project calls and pushing hard to close several major initiatives before the end of the year.

Tuesday

After the usual morning routine, today is all about diving into nominations for an insurance technology and innovation awards, where I’m very proud to be serving as a judge.

Categories include best use of AI and excellence in data analytics, so I get to apply my own insight from working within a data-focused company.

I’m excited to see developments shaping our industry and having the opportunity to meet the nominees. Preparation matters, so I take time to review every detail carefully. The calibre this year is exceptional and I’m looking forward to the pitches.

After afternoon pickup, I’m back on Zoom to discuss a new project idea with one of my analysts: supporting victims of ghost broking.

Work wraps up and the evening shift begins: cheer and gymnastics drop-offs, car park waiting and squeezing in school admin (my other full-time role). Funnily enough, some of my best ideas have started life in a damp October car park!

Wednesday

The morning kicks off with our weekly company stand-up.

Our CEO, Richard King, is unusual in his transparency and engagement, talking with the whole company once a week. He’s also a stickler for timekeeping, so I make sure my team puts down tasks and gets focused in good time.

His stand-up could be about anything from company performance, product strategy to mindfulness but today it’s ‘Employee of the Month’.

We’re celebrating exceptional work and success stories across the business – a great reminder of the talent and dedication that drives us forward.

We always have too many nominations to pick from, so there are four shout-outs as well as the winner this month.

Next up is my weekly team check-in. We talk about everything from family to projects, process improvements and ideas for change.

The afternoon is for focus time, diving into fraud analytics, reviewing KPIs and pushing forward on projects that will shape 2026.

Today I’m straight into prep for a meeting with our data scientists.

We’re discussing the training of our in-house AI fraud model, named ‘Guardian’. It’s designed to meet the niche challenges of our customer demographic, so it’s vital we continually feed data into the model to keep pace with evolving fraud tactics and improve predictability.

Fraudsters move fast, so we aim to stay one step ahead.

Today’s conversation focuses on reducing false positives, incorporating intel feedback and improving handler experience.

Collaboration between analysts and scientists is key to making this happen and it’s exciting to see how data and AI are shaping the future of fraud prevention.

Friday

This morning starts with a meeting with our claims provider – a monthly catch-up to share fraud trends and discuss complex cases. These sessions are invaluable; I always leave with fresh ideas we can apply at policy level to better support claims teams.

At Ticker, we try to keep Friday afternoons meeting-free. This time is gold. After a week of workshops and Zoom calls, it’s the perfect opportunity to catch up on admin, complete audits and plan for next week.

With everything prepped, I’m logging off and heading to a tumble class with my eldest. Luckily, there’s a waterside pub nearby, so I sneak in a well-earned glass of pinot before the weekend chaos begins.
