Penny Black’s Social Diary: Marketing humour and Guidewire’s shrimp salad

Social Diary

Penny Black is back, sharing the tittle-tattle she overheard at insurance industry events, reviewing the quality of buffets at conferences, and giving a thumbs up – or down – to the sector’s social media posts.

Cheeky marketing humour

Recruitment consultant Paige Modestou’s LinkedIn post this week showcased a sign that perfectly captures the cheeky humour of the businesses in the City.

The sign read “look good, feel good, sell more insurance” as a promotion for Fenchurch Barbers, and as Paige accurately put it, they clearly know their audience very well.

One commenter shared a hilarious nail bar encounter where the technician could immediately peg her as an insurance professional. Others chimed in with support for businesses that “know their demographic”.

I do wonder if insurance professionals do have an instantly recognisable je ne sais quoi or if they simply know once you’re based in EC3 it’s pretty likely you’re getting insurance people through your doors.

Penny Black Guidewire Insurance Forum

The Guidewire Insurance Forum in Paris spread showed us what conference catering has to offer across the channel.

The standout was the glasses filled with a light shrimp salad, topped with Skagen-style toast and garnished with fresh herbs. One could almost hear the catering team muttering bon appétit!

Five stars and a hearty “merci!” to the Guidewire team for making this food reviewer go global.

Out of context

“I just changed my diet and did a bit more exercise and I lost kilograms. My wife is helping and we’ll have a soup or a salad, but she can’t not eat chocolate every night.”

Simon Hayes, managing director of Next Gen Communications, shares his weight loss plan. Step aside Rosemary Conley and the makers of Ozempic – the Hayes plan is the way we’ll all be losing inches this summer.
