Penny Black’s Social Diary: Aviva’s vest; Baroness Lloyd’s malapropism

Social Diary

Penny Black is back, sharing the tittle-tattle she overheard at insurance industry events, reviewing the quality of buffets at conferences and giving a thumbs up – or down – to the sector’s social media posts.

Gorgeous gear

Sarah Poulter posing in her pink Autistica vest.

When thinking about marathons people are (rightfully) focused on the running and the charities, but rarely do we take the time to consider the outfit.

Sarah Poulter, head of media relations at Aviva, is running the TCS London Marathon this April, and her gorgeous pink vest with a fun blue ombré detail immediately made me think about the importance of a good running look.

It also has the name of her cause. Poulter is running to raise cash for autism research and campaigning charity Autistica.

Both of Poulter’s children and her nephew are autistic.

She hopes her run will raise awareness for the better understanding, support, and greater research needed to help autistic people thrive, and is looking great doing it.

Penny’s Lunch Box

Two white plates of cheese, crackers and shortbread.

The snacks had been mostly demolished by the time I made my way to the table at Insurance Post and Age’s PR drinks so there was little left other than these plates of cheese and crackers and shortbread.

They were exactly what you’d expect, so there’s not much to report. Three stars.

Out of Context

“We have a very strong cyber sector here. It generates annual revelry [sic revenue], of around £30bn and continues to expand year-on-year.”

Penny thinks Baroness Liz Lloyd of Effra, the UK’s Minister for the Digital Economy, accidentally said the wrong word before correcting herself – unless she was referring to the sector’s impressive parties, in which case let’s all revel in it.
