CII conference to examine how AI is reshaping insurance

Matthew Hill

“Artificial intelligence won’t replace your job, but someone who uses AI better than you will,” warns Artur Niemczewski, AI champion and former non-executive director of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Speaking ahead of the 2025 CII Shaping the Future of Insurance Conference on 1 October at Convene in London, Niemczewski stressed artificial intelligence is fast becoming an everyday tool for insurance professionals.

“Like it or not, you have to be proficient in using it just like how you use your calculator or Excel,” he said, adding this conference is about practical examples of how AI can help you better serve customers and improve your employer’s bottom line.

What works when it comes to AI adoption, what doesn’t, and what you need to know to stay effective in your role in the future will all be discussed at the conference.

The influence of AI can be seen across all aspects of the insurance profession, from how we assess risk to how we connect with customers.

Niemczewski and Professor Richard Susskind OBE, special envoy for justice and AI to the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, will kick off the conference by exploring AI regulation and professional standards.

Other speakers include Paul O’Brien, group chief AI officer at Davies Group, who will focus on AI’s impact on claims; Penny Jones, responsible AI lead at Zurich, who will cover AI in Underwriting: Smarter Risk, Sharper Decisions; and Phil Williams, managing director of retail at Clear Group, who will explain how data-driven insights and predictive analytics are transforming broking.

CII chief executive Matthew Hill (pictured) said: “The influence of AI can be seen across all aspects of the insurance profession, from how we assess risk to how we connect with customers.

“The CII Shaping the Future of Insurance Conference is an excellent opportunity for professionals at every level to understand what the impact of AI means in practice, and to help shape a future where pioneering technology goes hand in hand with standards, professionalism, and trust.”
