Diary of an Insurer: Marshmallow’s Tash Patient

Marshmallow Tash Patience

Monday

On Mondays I work from home which is great for focused work.

Today, I need to prepare and send off all our reporting from the previous month. This data is so important so external stakeholders can monitor how things are tracking.

At lunchtime I go for a run around Wandsworth Common. It’s a beautiful crisp day with blue skies which is my favourite weather.

I then join our weekly department meeting, where we go through key priorities and align and share updates across the teams.

I finish off the day gathering data and preparing slide packs for our upcoming meetings later this week.

Tuesday

The day starts with a 6.30am alarm and jump on the tube at 7.15am to enjoy the madness of the northern line all the way to our office in Old Street.

I grab a coffee from Gail’s and settle down at my desk… except I am not sat there for very long (as is normal for most Tuesdays).

I quickly respond to some emails and Slack messages before heading to a meeting room for my first call of the day where we discuss performance metrics and ongoing governance topics.

Then it is straight into a weekly meeting with an external partner to discuss the progress ongoing projects.

I then meet up with two of my colleagues and head to a nearby restaurant. It’s a good opportunity to strengthen relationships while talking through current results and plans.

When I return to the office, I spend some time updating spreadsheets and pulling together notes and actions from the day’s meetings, making sure everything is documented and up to date.

My day starts with a monthly meeting where we talk through our performance over the last month and discuss any key trends or developments.

I then join our weekly department meeting, where we go through key priorities and share updates across the team.

In the afternoon, I spend some time preparing documentation for next year, working closely with our compliance and legal teams.

In the evening, I head out with friends to watch The Devil Wears Prada musical. 10/10 – I would recommend it.

Thursday

Back in the office again. We often host external stakeholders in our office for meetings and a big part of my role is managing those relationships so it’s great to meet up in person. Today we discuss plans and how we can continue to develop what we offer.

Afterwards, I spend some time reviewing and preparing actions from our meeting to make sure everything is followed up properly.

Friday

I start the morning with several spreadsheets open, updating the latest positions on our ongoing work.

Later in the morning, I join an internal session focused on our reporting metrics, where we look at how we can continue to improve the way we use and share data.

The highlight of the day is some good news. One of the pieces of work we’ve been working hard on over the past few weeks is in a really good place, which is a great position to be in.
