Penny Black’s Social Diary: Aviva’s patty; First Central’s market

Social Diary

Penny Black shares the tittle-tattle she overheard at insurance industry events, reviewing the quality of buffets at conferences, and giving a thumbs up – or down – to the sector’s social media posts.

Childhood dreams

Insurtech UK CEO Melissa Collett’s joyous review of Human League’s performance at Aviva Studios during the British Insurance Brokers’ Association Conference in Manchester reminded me of my own childhood electric dreams.

Seeing as I was born in 1840, my dreams naturally differed, and I did have to consult my more youthful colleagues to understand what exactly ‘MTV’ was.

I’m sure we can all relate to the giddiness of seeing a musician your childhood self once adored. I’m more partial to Mozart or Beethoven than Human League, but I’d say my chances of a live performance from one of these maestros are rather slim.

I have given “Don’t You Want Me” a listen (purely for research purposes) and I would like to request that Aviva brings Human League back again next year.

Penny’s Lunch Box

Penny Black Chelsea Flower Show

The sausage patty on a crumpet with fried egg and cheese that I was served at the Chelsea Flower Show, courtesy of Aviva’s invite, was a fairly standard meal in quite an extravagant location.

With all the public figures roaming around, it was nice to have a comfort dish to start a lovely day of admiring gorgeous garden design and floral art.

Bonus points for the attempt at elevation through the parsley garnish as sometimes it’s the little things that count. Five stars.

Out of context

“It’s softer than we expected.”

First Central CEO Michael Lee talking about the home insurance market after launching a home product last year.
