How to create an inclusive insurance company

How to make sure the insurance industry attracts and retains a wider pool of talent is the topic of the latest Insurance Post Top Tips video, featuring Caroline Taylor, chief operating officer of Acies MGU.

In her Insurance Post Top Tips video, Taylor recommends insurers:

  • Foster a culture of openness.
  • Not tolerate discrimination or harassment.
  • Address conscious and unconscious bias.

A lot of training needs to happen around conscious and unconscious bias, according to Taylor.

On why this education was essential, she said: “Ensuring you have different people throughout that recruitment process and that you are fishing from different ponds.

“I left school at 16. I’m from a socially disadvantaged background and I don’t have a degree.

“If I were being hired today in the insurance industry, I would find it really hard to get a job.”

Over the coming weeks, Insurance Post’s Top Tips videos will feature the industry’s leading lights, sharing simple but effective ideas that could take your insurance business and career to the next level.
