Throwback Thursday: Axa’s size boast

Throwback Thursday

Insurance Post’s Throwback Thursday steps back in time to October 1990 to remind you what was going on this week in insurance history when Axa was bragging about it’s size.

25 October 1990: Axa gets bigger

An Axa advertisement saw the business boasting that after buying Westgate Insurance Company, its gross premium figures had grown from £69.6m to £4.7bn.

The advert stated: “Just how does our new size affect you? And how will it affect your clients?

“Not only are we adding extra financial muscle. We are also adding extra skills and experience in the form of a worldwide team of professionals to work for you around the globe.

“Here in the UK we have already started building our new network of regional underwriting centres to serve you even better and we are equipping every one of our development underwriters with computers linked directly to our headquarters.

“So, you can now offer your clients not only the finest, but also the fastest products from an ever expanding general and commercial portfolio.”
