Two empty deckchairs on golden sands

Mapfre Assistance has been awarded a contract to provide travel insurance and assistance services to Avanti Travel Insurance.

The three-year contract is initially estimated to exceed £5m of gross written premium a year but it is expected that this will grow significantly over that period.

The agreement sees Mapfre Assistance provide a proposition including single trip, annual multi-trip, winter sports, backpacker and business travel insurance to Avanti’s market of those aged 50 and over and those with pre-existing medical conditions.

Glen Smith, Avanti managing director, said: “Travel insurance for the over 50s is a growing market and it is vital that we have an underwriting partner that recognises our requirements in order to ensure we share in that growth. Mapfre Assisitance as demonstrated the flexibility required for this market and is certainly living up to its reputation in this respect.”

Richard Saunders, head of sales, finance & insurance, Mapfre Assistance, said: “We are delighted to be working with Avanti and are confident that with our huge worldwide network and vast experience in the travel insurance sector, we can help them grow their travel insurance business significantly over the coming months and years.”
