Link celebrates one year anniversary

Link, the LGBT Insurance Network, has celebrated the one year anniversary of its steering committee with an event hosted by Catlin.

Link's steering committee was formed in August 2012 and was tasked with developing the network's mission and vision as well as plans for the future.

The network, which officially launched in March 2013, has grown its membership to over 200 insurance professionals both from the UK and internationally.

Link supported AIG, Catlin and Lloyd's in joining Stonewall's Diversity Champions Programme in 2013. These firms join existing insurance Diversity Champion Members Aon, Aviva, Legal & General, Prudential, and Standard Life.

In the next twelve months the network's focus will seek to further engage with LGBT insurance professionals, with views to establishing itself as the LGBT network for those who do not have LGBT support within their own firms, and continue its engagement with senior management in the industry, to put the business case for diversity and inclusion, including economic benefits, into every board room in the insurance industry.

Erik Johnson, co-chair of Link, said: "Over the past twelve months Link has been able to raise the profile of diversity and inclusion within the insurance sector, gain the support of leading market figures and organisations, and engage with LGBT insurance professionals across the sector.

"While Link has made good progress to date there is much more we can do. Link's steering committee will continue to work hard, along with our members and supporters, to ensure that the insurance industry is able to attract and retain the best LGBT talent."

Link's activities have been financially supported by AIG, Aviva, Arch Re Facultative, Catlin Group, Generali, Lloyds Banking Group and the Chartered Insurance Institute.
