The sixth edition of the Ogden Tables - the government's actuarial yardstick - has controversially introduced an entirely new approach to calculating discounts for contingencies; raising industry concerns that significantly larger discounts will be applied to loss of earnings multipliers, reports Stephanie Denton

On 3 May the latest revision of the Ogden Tables, the government's actuarial tables, were released amid controversy and claims that insurers could face a 50% increase in personal injury compensation
