Penny Black’s Social Diary: Allianz paints; IUAD’s cupcakes

Social Diary

Penny Black is back, sharing the tittle-tattle she overheard at insurance industry events, reviewing the quality of buffets at conferences and giving a thumbs up – or down – to the sector’s social media posts.

Painting nine to five

Distribution manager for midlands and the south at Allianz Engineering Inspection Services Rajesh Poselay has become something of a Penny Black favourite.

What can I say? The adorable LinkedIn choreographies are often too wholesome to resist, serving up entertainment and possible inspiration – that’s a not-so-subtle nudge for the Insurance Post team to recreate at least one of the videos.

I’m happy to say, in true influencer fashion, he is a man of range, and this time he served up his colleagues using volunteering hours to paint a community centre for Birmingham City Mission with Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5 playing in the background.

Classic tunes plus doing good for the community are simply the easiest way to my heart. I look forward to Rajesh’s next musical number.

Penny’s Lunch Box

Penny Black IUAD cupcakes

Today’s theme seems to be establishing consistency, because I’ve made it quite clear that we are massive fans of cupcakes here at Post.

I was chuffed to see the effective use of Lola’s Cupcakes at Insurance United Against Dementia’s celebrations to mark the campaign hitting its £10m target.

For any friends of the publication hoping to send us cupcakes soon, I hope you take a page out of IUAD’s book and make them spell out 1840 to mark my birth year. The more cake the better. Five stars.

Out of context

“In the best traditions of the London Market, I think this started over quite a long, boozy lunch.”

Speaking at a party to mark Insurance United Against Dementia raising £10m, Richard Dudley, group chief broking officer at BMS Group and outgoing chair of the campaign, thanks the award-winning initiative’s founders for their efforts.

Diary of an Insurer: NFU Mutual’s James Trevis

When he isn’t deep in strategy meetings shaping the future of cyber insurance for SMEs, James Trevis, NIS portfolio manager and cyber specialist at NFU Mutual, is out on his bike, enjoying a drink with friends, or travelling with in his campervan.

Die Hard: Who is insurance’s answer to John McClane?

Content Director's View: Putting aside the argument about whether Die Hard is a Christmas movie or not, Jonathan Swift asks if you have ever wondered who would be the insurance equivalent to NYPD cop turned terrorist plot spoiler John McClane?
