Penny Black’s Social Diary: Allianz dancers; Careless pizza

Social Diary

Penny Black is back, sharing the tittle-tattle she overheard at insurance industry events, reviewing the quality of buffets at conferences and giving a thumbs up – or down – to the sector’s social media posts.

Staying Alive in Birmingham

The insurance industry appears to be “Stayin’ Alive” indeed! Distribution manager for the midlands and south at Allianz, Rajesh Poselay, set LinkedIn abuzz with footage of the Allianz team showcasing their disco moves at the annual Insurance Institute Dinner in Birmingham.

The video features a parade of industry professionals demonstrating varying degrees of dance proficiency to the Bee Gees classic.

Comments from impressed colleagues suggest Strictly Come Dancing scouts might want to keep an eye on the Birmingham insurance scene. One particularly enthusiastic commenter declared it was “F… Great”, which I can only assume stands for “fantastically great”.

It seems the Birmingham market knows how to let loose when the occasion calls for it, I look forward to persuading the Post editorial team to make our own imitation when we’re all dressed up for the British Insurance Awards at the Royal Albert Hall on 9 July.

Penny Black Careless House Party

The Careless Launch Party at Soho bar The House Party provided a nostalgic journey back to a house party in the early 2000s, complete with takeaway-style pizza boxes scattered across vintage furniture.

With several slices being demolished before I could even get my camera out, the crowd stayed true to the familiar rush of house party guests gobbling everything they could find.

I enjoyed every slice I could after securing my photo, alongside chicken wings, tater tots, and a watermelon paloma in an authentic red solo cup. Five stars.

Out of context

“I’ve heard the Wednesday night is a bit of a boozy affair.”

Adam Holden, associate director at Omnia Partners, anticipates the excitement of the British Insurance Brokers’ Association conference in Manchester next week.
