My best 11: Alistair Steward, Questgates

football-stadium-corner-flag

Alistair Steward, director at loss adjusting company Questgates, names his Best XI for a potential start-up insurance company. Steward has chosen from the insurance elite, the celebrity world and the galaxy of football stars to select his dream team.

1. Steve Maddock (RBSI) (GK)
The RBSI head of claims fits the bill as the starting line up's last line of defence.

2. Janice Deakin (Aviva) (RB)
Always keen to put the customer first and will deliver a dazzling display for the fans at right back.

3. Peter Cullum (Towergate) (LB)
Peter is a Norwich City fan, making him an automatic choice, and probably the biggest name in general insurance over the past decade.

4. Barry Smith (Ageas) (CM)
With his vast experience, the Ageas CEO will be the perfect foil for Beckham in the midfield.

5. Eric Galbraith (Biba) (CB)
In the heart of defence, the Biba chief executive is strong in the air and will resolutely defend our company's position in the market.

6. Barbara Bradshaw (IIB) (CB)
Striking fear into the opposition with her nonsense style, the IIB head is the obvious partner for Galbraith.

8. Lionel Messi (CM)
This start-up has a key philosophy - recruit the best. Barcelona star Lionel Messi is just that. Say no more.

7. David Beckham (RM)
Beckham has no experience of running an insurance company, but with a right foot like his and the ability to put in a leader's performance, Goldenballs is my choice for captain.

9. David Williams (Axa) (ST)
Tasked with keeping his strike partner's performance on the right side of the law - in addition to playing his part in Axa's commercial turnaround - claims and underwriting director David Williams is the ideal strike partner.

10. Didier Drogba (ST)
Having made more dubious(penalty) claims than anyone else in football, Drogba is the perfect ‘poacher turned gamekeeper' choice as head of counter fraud.

11. Delia Smith (LM)
A canny businesswoman, Delia serves a great pie and, in keeping with the insurance industry, is known to enjoy a glass or two at half time.

Tesco Law and the insurer legal services revolution that never was

Content Director's View: More than a decade ago many insurers could not wait to seize the opportunities afforded by a change in the law that allowed them to set up their own legal services arms. Jonathan Swift reflects on what happened next - and the prospect of a one-stop-shop claims provider in the future.
