It was a case of keeping it in the family for LV chief executive Mike Rogers as his firm hosted a hospitality box at the first day of the fifth England vs India test match at the Oval last week.

First his youngest son scooped a Kevin Pieterson-signed cricket bat in the afternoon raffle, before Rogers Sr came closest to a predicting the total number of runs at tea time to win a bat scribbled on by the current England squad.

Accusations of a possible fix were soon silenced however by Rogers Jr magnanimously handing over his initial prize to a fellow guest to be auctioned off at a fundraising event.

Penny loves a claims story - just see this week's Linked In debate for proof - but even she was shocked by a tale heard this week of a policyholder who tried to claim for jewellery stolen while on holiday.

The claimant duly submitted a photo of the missing items in question - a Rolex watch and a rather bling necklace. The only problem? The photo was dated two days after the alleged theft. Whoops! What on earth could the claimant produce to extricate himself from such a mess?

Apparently the watch and necklace were duplicates, purchased to avoid upsetting the children with the revelation of the theft. The things we do for our kids...
