Post news editor Mairi MacDonald outlines this week's major general insurance stories including DAS’ decision to close the Amicus Legal office in Colchester, a move which will cost 21 people their jobs.

Of the 28 staff members based at the specialist insurance provider's Essex office, DAS said two will move to the London office, and up to five more are expected to relocate to its office in Bedwas, Caerphilly, in Wales.

In other news, Axa Personal Lines has ousted Mondial Assistance as underwriter for travel giant TUI, following a successful bid to win back the three-year contract; Co-operative Financial Services has claimed general insurance remains "integral" to its business, after announcing plans to shed 750 jobs and sell off its life insurance business; the co-founder of Keelan Westall has returned to the broking business he sold five years ago in a bid to inject some entrepreneurial spirit and return it to profit; and finally, Paladin Underwriting Agency's managing director Bill Adamson is on gardening leave after exiting the Lloyd's business. It comes as brokers complained of being left in the lurch after the MGA came off cover for its waste and recycling policies midterm.
