RenRe's Q2 net income off 24%

Renaissance Re, the Bermudian (re)insurer, said that second quarter net income dropped to $146.3m, down 24% from $193.7m a year earlier. First half net income dropped to $294m, down from $395.7 a year earlier.

Second quarter operating income fell to $159.9m compared to $194.7m in the second quarter of 2007. Gross premiums written for the second quarter of 2008 were $807.6m, a $38m decrease from the second
