Catlin Q1 gross written premiums jump

Catlin, the Lloyd's (re)insurer, said that gross premiums written increased during the first quarter of 2009 by 2% to US$1.17bn.

Net premiums written rose by 17% - mainly thanks to the cessation at 31 December 2008 of the quota share reinsurance of the Catlin syndicate under which 12.5% of gross premiums written was ceded
