Beazley sees premium up 27% in the first quarter

Lloyd's insurer has reported that gross premiums written to the end of March were £256.2m, which was 27% above 2008 at the same stage.

It added the increase is largely attributable to the appreciation in the US dollar relative to sterling since the first quarter of 2008: 75% of its premiums are US dollar denominated.
