A brown cloud of pollution blanketing southern Asia is affecting
rainfall, agriculture and human health, according to a new study by the
United Nations Environment Programme (Unep). Its report states that the
effects of the pollution extend far beyond the area covered by the haze
and makes an urgent call for further research into the Asian brown cloud.
The Unep report coincides with a study of climate change by reinsurance
giant Swiss Re, which shows that seemingly insignificant shifts in average
temperatures can cause multi-million dollar losses.
