How to educate consumers about the value of insurance

Ways to make sure consumers understand the value of insurance rather than just see the price is the topic of the latest Insurance Post Top Tips video, featuring Martyn Mathews, managing director of SSP Broker.

In his Top Tips video, Mathews recommends insurers:

  • Be transparent.
  • Educate children.
  • Explain soft fraud is not victimless.

At renewal, Mathews says insurers and brokers should educate consumers about what pushes up premiums.

He said: “It is incredibly important that that consumers understand how insurance is made-up and the factors that go into influencing a price.

“Why don’t we tell them what happens in renewal in more detail so that they understand the factors in the market, such as claims inflation and how that might impact the price.

“If we do that people will build trust in the market and that can only be a good thing for all of us.”

Over the coming weeks Post’s Top Tips videos will feature the industry's leading lights sharing simple but effective ideas that could take your insurance business and career to the next level.
