Penny Black’s Social Diary: Cybercube’s tea; Dual’s dahlias

Social Diary

Penny Black is back, sharing the tittle-tattle she overheard at insurance industry events, reviewing the quality of buffets at conferences and giving a thumbs up – or down – to the sector’s social media posts.

Cows and marathons

PR manager at Markel International Daniel Moore’s LinkedIn post showed he is capable of completing two feats I find completely impossible.

Moore survived an attack from a herd of cows and completed a half marathon in two hours and nine minutes. I’m overwhelmed at the mere thought.

As if that wasn’t impressive enough, he also surpassed his £1000 fundraising target for road safety charity Brake.

All in honour of his brother, who he tragically lost to an irresponsible drink driver. I’m sure you’ve done him very proud, Daniel!

Penny Black Cybercube Tea

This Halloween, Cyber Cube dared to delight our editor with a fiendishly fabulous Afternoon Tea at Roast in Borough Market, which was equal parts eerie and elegant.

While the food is typically the main event here, I have to commend the ornate flower arrangement, complete with skulls and pumpkins. Five stars.

Out of context

“Gardening, which is much to the amusement of my children because it means I’m old. Because I care about my dahlias.”

They may laugh, but Simon McGinn, CEO of Dual, knows what his children don’t yet: patience, timing, and a bit of pruning are the secrets to everything that grows.
