Penny Black’s Social Diary: FCA number plate; Ryan Specialty’s chocolate

Social Diary

Penny Black is back, sharing the tittle-tattle she overheard at insurance industry events, reviewing the quality of buffets at conferences, and giving a thumbs up – or down – to the sector’s social media posts.

FCA Chevvy

I’m sure many insurance professionals have felt a little bit haunted by the Financial Conduct Authority at some point in their careers.

I know the Insurance Post editorial team can particularly relate to the sentiment, when they’re reading through page after page of consultation papers for a news story.

That familiarity made head of intermediary consultancy for the south at Insurance Compliance Services David Allison’s LinkedIn post all the more relatable.

While on holiday, with a full seven hour flight between him and the UK, Allison spotted a Chevvy with a number plate spelling out “FCA” right at the end.

You can take the man away from regulation, but you can’t take regulation away from the man!

While conferences have many benefits, everyone knows nothing quite beats the delight of walking around the stands and getting as many freebies as possible while talking to the smallest number of sales people you can manage.

This branded Ryan Specialty Tony’s Chocolonely bar was a lovely score at the Managing General Agents Association conference; made sweeter still by the taste test the Post team did in the office the following day.

The verdict was the caramel and sea salt option make a much better chocolate bar additions than the raspberry pieces and popping candy one did. Five stars.

Melissa Collett, Insurtech UK CEO, shares the presidential conflict that made her miss Insurance Post’s British Insurance Awards. Spoiler alert: it was a state banquet at Windsor Castle!
