Penny Black’s Social Diary: Superscript’s netball; MHP Group’s salad

Social Diary

Penny Black is back, sharing the tittle-tattle she overheard at insurance industry events, reviewing the quality of buffets at conferences and giving a thumbs up – or down – to the sector’s social media posts.

Net Premiums

Superscript’s netball team’s tournament participation announcement grabbed my attention on LinkedIn this week.

You should all be aware of my love for puns and word play by now, and Net Premiums was simply too good to ignore.

If any other insurance firms are looking for team names, I have spent an embarrassingly long amount of time considering this and my results are The Policy Holders and Cover Defence. Today was not my best day.

I was also pleased to hear the team won six games over eight matches against the likes of Mastercard and Allica Bank. As insurance is often accused of being laggards in financial services, it’s good to know we’re in the top percentile where netball is concerned.

The video attached to the announcement had a truly adorable introduction to all the Net Premiums team members; No Stress Nich just might be my spirit guide.

Penny’s Lunch Box

Penny Black 30 To Watch Salad

Miniatures are always much cuter than full-size things, which is why I loved my tiny chicken Caesar salad at MHP Group’s 30 To Watch: Journalism Awards.

Would I have enjoyed a full plate of this as much? Probably not. But there was something about holding the tiny bowl and eating with my tiny fork that somehow elevated the experience.

Perhaps a tip for all industry events – make it smaller to mask any gaps in flavour or quality. Four stars.

Out of context

“In the best traditions of the London Market, I think this started over quite a long, boozy lunch.”

Speaking at a party to mark Insurance United Against Dementia raising £10m, Richard Dudley, group chief broking officer at BMS Group and outgoing chair of the campaign, thanks the award-winning initiative’s founders for kicking off the award-winning campaign.

Die Hard: Who is insurance’s answer to John McClane?

Content Director's View: Putting aside the argument about whether Die Hard is a Christmas movie or not, Jonathan Swift asks if you have ever wondered who would be the insurance equivalent to NYPD cop turned terrorist plot spoiler John McClane?
