Penny Black’s Social Diary: BIA song; Partners&’s compliment

Social Diary

Penny Black is back, sharing the tittle-tattle she overheard at insurance industry events, reviewing the quality of buffets at conferences, and giving a thumbs up – or down – to the sector’s social media posts.

BIAs get a song

I was absolutely delighted to see Riskstop Group’s head of strategic planning, brand and revenue operations Johnny Thomson’s LinkedIn post sharing the Rebuild Cost Assessment team’s incredible original song for the Insurance Post British Insurance Awards Bucket Hat Challenge.

I’ve shared many posts on this column, but from the perfect replication of the 1990s Britpop music video aesthetic to the unbelievable guitar solo, nothing comes even close to matching the Rebuild Cost Assessment team’s creativity.

The entire BIA team was contemplating whether the team would be willing to serve as an opening act for this year’s performance because we would all love to hear that song live.

I’ll be singing “Who’d have guessed this trusted trade of ours would get a night beneath the stars?” long after all the bucket hats have been put away.

Penny’s Lunch Box

FSSC Conference Penny Black

The spread at the Financial Skills Commission’s Future Skills Conference was compelling enough to have me reaching shamelessly for a second plate.

I’ve been dreaming of the spicy buffalo cauliflower bites with red pepper dipping sauce since that day, and I’m seriously contemplating attempting the recipe at home on that rare occasion when Penny is in her own kitchen rather than networking at an insurance industry event.

If any more conferences can get that on the buffet menu, I can guarantee this Post columnist will find her way to your event. Five stars.

Out of context

“The cash is in the post.”

Stuart Reid, chair of Partners&, responds to a compliment.
