Throwback Thursday: CII plans for new world

Throwback Thursday

Insurance Post’s Throwback Thursday steps back in time to September 1945 to remind you what was going on this week in insurance history when the Chartered Insurance Institute was planning its first post-war annual conference.

8 September 1945: CII plans for new world

Post’s cover story was about the return of the Chartered Insurance Institute’s annual conference, reflections on how the body kept the “flag flying” in the midst of the war and whether change was needed.

“Besides gratitude there will be in the minds of all those privileged to be present at the conference the thought of the tremendous tasks that lie ahead,” Post’s reporting team wrote.

“We are entering a new, and please God, a better world; but it will be a much more complex world than the one we knew prior to the autumn of 1939, and the Institute has to play its part in that new world.”

Post pointed out the framework of the institute may need refashioning with the “question of Local Institutes and Centres” likely to be raised at the conference.
