60 seconds with... Kate Gregory, RSA
Kate Gregory, regional underwriting leader at RSA, tells Post why her first job left her little better off than when she was unemployed, and the one thing she couldn't live without.
Explain your job to a five-year-old.
I boss people about? Joking aside, some of my team, and definitely my other half, would describe me as bossy but it’s in a nice way (I hope).
What has been the highlight of your career to date?
Being appointed in my current role. It meant learning leadership skills, which was something that was completely new to me. I have loved shaping and leading a brilliant team.
If you could learn any new skill what would it be?
I would love to learn another language. My brother speaks fluent German and it’s such a good skill to have. I keep trying to learn Spanish but it’s slow progress
If you could be a fictional character, which one would it be?
Wonder Woman.
What chore do you hate most?
Packing. I love holidays but I absolutely hate packing. It’s the stress of forgetting something I might want when I’m there.
What did you buy with your first wage packet?
Shoes. My first job was in River Island and every payday I’d spend it all using my staff discount. I was honestly worse off than when I was unemployed
What song is guaranteed to make you smile or dance?
Anything by the Spice Girls. I grew up with ‘Girl Power’, so it reminds me of when I was younger.
If you could go back in time to any point in history, where would you go?
1960s America. The Motown Era. I love it.
What one thing couldn’t you live without?
Wine.
How do you define success?
The result of dedication, hard work and doing the best you can.
