Penny Black’s Social Diary: Lloyd’s tours; Ageas’s chocolate

Social Diary

Penny Black is back, sharing the tittle-tattle she overheard at insurance industry events, reviewing the quality of buffets at conferences and giving a thumbs up – or down – to the sector's social media posts.

Legendary Stevo tour

Nicolas Stevenson, Lloyd’s broker at James Hallam Limited & London Re, recently took a group from Aviva on a tour of the Lloyd’s building, which came complete with a “crash course on how it all works”.

His LinkedIn post about the tour unleashed a flood of nostalgic comments from people reminiscing about their own “legendary Stevo tour” experiences from years past.

One person recalled there being “a lunch and some very good wine too” a decade ago.

What’s particularly lovely is that Stevenson’s Lloyd’s tours appear to have achieved a sort of cult status in the insurance world.

It’s not often that a tour of the Lloyd’s building becomes the stuff of legend, but apparently, if you’re good at it and know where the best lunch spots are, people will still be talking about it for years to come.

Superscript’s senior account manager Jonathan Rennick’s request for a second tour, met with Stevenson’s response that “extra training is required”, suggesting this is an excursion not offered lightly. The comment, frankly, only adds to the mystique.

Green and Black's Chocolate Tasting Collection

Ageas sent the Insurance Post editorial team a variety of Green & Black’s chocolate nestled in a presentation box that looked far too fancy to just rip open. Each member of the team got to go home with their own selection.

Five stars for presentation, five stars for taste, five stars for sending chocolate to journalists who spend their days writing about insurance.

Out of Context

“We are not just small men.”

Gabriele Hollmann, head of Israel and sub-region at Scor, hilariously articulates the fact that women have unique biological features that are often ignored in medicine, widening the gender health gap.
