Throwback Thursday: Adjusters told to stop gossiping

Throwback Thursday

Insurance Post’s Throwback Thursday steps back in time to August 1996 to remind you what was going on this week in insurance history when loss adjusters were told to gossip less and work more.

1 August 1996: Little less conversation more adjusting please

Following market rumours of a merger linking two major adjusting firms, loss adjusters were told to spend less time speculating on deals.

Thomas Howell and Crawford Brocklehurst dismissed as “market speculation” reports the two companies were discussing a possible merger.

Thomas Howell’s parent company, Swiss Re, stated it was positive about the future of its relationship with the loss adjuster.

Peter McCrystal, Thomas Howell’s spokesperson, said: “It seems there are more loss adjusters spending time on speculating than on adjusting. Companies might have a greater profit margin if they spent more time on adjusting.”

Crawford & Company bought both the Thomas Howell Group and the Brocklehurst Group in the 1990s.
