Penny Black’s Social Diary: HFG's hands; SEC Newgate's treats

Social Diary

Penny Black is back, sharing the tittle-tattle she overheard at insurance industry events, reviewing the quality of buffets at conferences and giving a thumbs up – or down – to the sector’s social media posts.

High value hands

HFG Insurance senior consultant Paul Miller’s LinkedIn history lessons have become one of my favourite things to look out for and include in this column.

I’m gradually building a list of my favourite insurance influencers; at the moment it’s just Miller and distribution manager at Allianz Engineering Inspection Services Rajesh Poselay.

Today’s post from Miller shares some of the curious characters who have insured their hands at Lloyd’s of London.

He starts off with speed typist Millicent Woodward and moves on to individuals with a range of roles including a legal safe cracker, violinist, several pianists, and the most peculiar was a table soccer world champion, who insured his right hand index finger for $25,000.

The tasks the insureds were banned from doing in their policies were even stranger. For example pianist Hazel Scott was prevented from washing dishes.

Suddenly the prospect of learning an instrument, becoming very good at it and insuring my hands seems quite appealing, if it means avoiding housework.

Penny’s Lunch Box

Penny Black SEC Newgate

SEC Newgate’s summer social was heaven for a true sweet tooth like myself. No matter the meal I have, I’m always yearning for a little something sweet after.

We were offered quite the range of options including pastel de natas, brownies, mini cheesecakes and cups of chocolate mousse.

I naturally helped myself to far more of the treats than I should have, and I regret nothing! Five stars.
