Penny Black’s Social Diary: HFG’s history; WTW’s ham
Penny Black is back, sharing the tittle-tattle she overheard at insurance industry events, reviewing the quality of buffets at conferences, and giving a thumbs up – or down – to the sector’s social media posts.
VIP tastebuds
Reading HFG Insurance Recruitment senior insurance consultant Richard Miller’s LinkedIn post on all the famous tastebuds insured at Lloyd’s of London was entertaining and inspirational.
As Insurance Post’s resident food reviewer, I believe my tastebuds should be treated with the same urgency as Gordon Ramsay, Tetley’s Sebastian Michaelis or Cadbury’s Hayleigh Curtis.
The range of value from $1m (£742,632) to $10m (£7.4m) even has me contemplating how much mine would be valued for, as I’m certain none of those highly qualified professionals could assess an insurance conference buffet to the level that I do, so Lloyd’s better prepare for their most expensive taster policy yet.
Miller also mentioned the public relations perks of having a taster insured for a whopping sum, and it seems like an irresistible way to secure some Post corporate subscriptions; no one can say I don’t think of the greater good.
Prepare yourselves for the headline – Lloyd’s insures Post’s Penny Black’s tastebuds for £15m.
Penny’s Lunch Box
The WTW Media Awards’ spread seemed to be focused on a single principle: ham, ham, and even when you think you can’t take another bite, more ham.
While other canapés were served prior to the awards ceremony, afterwards, the thin circles of meat were all that was on offer.
I have nothing against ham personally, but naturally, after the awards were handed out that was the point of the evening where we could have all done with a bit more variety. Three stars.
