Penny Black’s Social Diary: Branko’s outfit; Aviva’s beef

Social Diary

Penny Black shares the tittle-tattle she overheard at insurance industry events, reviews the quality of buffets at conferences, and gives a thumbs up – or down – to the sector's social media posts.

Union Jack ensemble

Seeing compliance consultant Branko Bjelobaba’s LinkedIn post sharing the delightful look he wore on his visit to the Cabinet War Rooms with the Insurance Institute of London made my day.

I’ve never been much of a Union Jack enthusiast, but I feel positively inspired to become one of those people who has the flags hung around their front door whenever there’s a bank holiday.

I’m also quite disappointed in myself for not having the creativity to have work a union jack scarf on my trip to the Houses of Parliament for the British Insurance Brokers’ Association Manifesto launch earlier this year.

If only I had Branko’s style!

Aviva Mamma Mia Penny Black

Every once in a while, members of the Post team get truly enviable invitations to enjoy evenings of networking and excellent music with industry friends. This time our presence was beckoned to the glorious Mamma Mia! The Party at the O2 by the great team at Aviva.

I’ll spare you all my rave review of the performance and focus on the purpose of this section – the food. While all four Greek courses were definitely something to write home about, my favourite was the delicious beef.

To be specific: braised lamb stifado and slow-cooked beef, served with garlic roasted baby potatoes, vegetable and tomato briam and red wine jus.

I have lifted that straight off the menu because, despite the frequency of this section, I don’t have the expertise to identify those ingredients on sight. I can tell you though, that it was just as good as it sounds. Five stars.

Out of context

“I’ve never pretended I’m not a geek, but now I really can’t deny it.”

David Sheppard, head of systems, quality and development at Crawford & Company, explains the interesting contents of his backdrop on a Teams call.
