It is somewhat fitting that Post includes an interview with Hiscox chairman Robert Hiscox in the same week that Royal Bank of Scotland Insurance announces its plan to make a play for one his firm’s traditional heartlands, the mid and high-net-worth space. Not because Hiscox is in any sense the past and Direct Line Select the future.

Far from it.

Hiscox is already three years ahead of RBSI here, having decided in 2008 to underwrite its MNW book online and over the phone, and putting its energies in the broker/intermediary space
