Chancellor urges insurers to reject claims

The government today took another step in its work in tackling public perceptions of a compensation culture. Lord Falconer, Secretary of State for Constitutional Affairs and Lord Chancellor, speaking at the Risk and Redress Conference in London, called on local authorities and insurers to play their part by working harder to identify spurious claims and to be resolute in refusing to pay out.

"If we are to promote confidence in the system, local authorities, insurers - all those who receive claims - must find ways to identify and reject bad claims" said Lord Falconer.
