Aon Re’s UK CEO Andrew Laing passes away

Andrew Laing

Andrew Laing, CEO of reinsurance for the UK and chairman of global facultative for Aon, has passed away.

Laing had been at Aon for more than 40 years, focusing on UK reinsurance from March this year.

He had also been CEO of its global facultative reinsurance division, but Aon appointed Nick Fraccalvieri to the role in a strategic leadership shift.

In a statement released yesterday (22 October), Aon said: “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Andrew Laing, who led Aon’s UK reinsurance solutions business.

“Andrew devoted more than 40 years to Aon, building not only an extraordinary career but also lasting friendships across our business and the wider market.

“Those who knew Andrew will remember far more than his professional accomplishments. He was devoted to his family, was a trusted colleague, a generous mentor and a loyal and valued friend to so many.”

Just last month, Laing was at Lloyd’s to mark the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, remembering those who lost their lives.

During the service, Laing read Christina Rossetti’s Remember, which was followed by the Lloyd’s choir performing Irving Berlin’s God Bless America.

The circumstances of his death are currently unknown.

Tributes

Aon continued in its statement: “Our thoughts are with his family, friends, colleagues and all those who knew and loved him.

“Andrew will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.”

On Aon’s post on LinkedIn, many prominent leaders from within the industry paid their respects.

Chris Rash, AIG’s UK CEO called it “desperately sad news” while saying he is “privileged to have known Andrew”.

Andrew Holmes, group capacity director at CFC, echoed Rash’s sentiment.

John Turner, chairman at Price Forbes (Bermuda) said Laing was “the greatest in all that he did”.

He continued: “Such a sad and huge loss to everyone around him, thinking of Coralie and his wider family at this saddest of times.

“Rest in peace my friend.”

All at Insurance Post would like to pass on their deepest condolences to Andrew’s family, friends, colleagues at Aon and peers throughout the wider market.
