Editor's comment: Brit offer makes waves

Last week, Brit Insurance certainly made waves on the Stock Exchange when its share price rocketed on news that US private equity house Apollo was sniffing around the business and had made a £10 per share cash offer.

Although the now Dutch-domiciled group rejected this offer, there has been speculation about whether Apollo will up its bid, or move onto other insurers if it has an appetite to get into Lloyd's.
