Penny Black's Insurance Week - 25 July 2013

Preventing a breach of data is high on the agenda for most companies in the insurance industry, but it seems London’s cabbies are the real protectors of sensitive information.

As Penny tucked into a Fred Flinstone-esque meat platter with some of her fraud investigation friends at Absolute Partnership this week, the meal was interrupted by an out-of-puff taxi driver clutching a mysterious black folder.

It turns out the file, belonging to one of Penny’s hosts, was left in the cab hours earlier and contained sensitive information used at a business pitch earlier in the day. Rumours that Zurich and Sony are battling for the cabbie’s services are unconfirmed at this time.

Meanwhile, Penny has always believed news should be delivered as early as possible – and her news editor colleague Mairi MacDonald certainly stuck to this principle last week when she gave birth to a healthy 6lb 8oz bouncing baby girl, Eliza Abigail, two weeks ahead of her due date. Mum, baby, dad and big brother Max are all doing fine, Penny is delighted to report.
