Penny Black's Insurance Week - 20 June 2013

Penny saw several delegates looking a little jaded on the final day of the Airmic 2013 conference in Brighton, but none quite so worse for wear as the good fellows from the Institute of Risk Management.

Disappointed with the premature end of RSA’s beachside soirée, the gents found their way to the only place still open – popular gay bar Legends. Events took a further turn when a member of the party spied a former acquaintance through the mist, now sporting female attire and the mantle of ‘Miss Alternative Brighton’. The night ended with the IRM contingent doing karaoke in the lovely lady’s living room. Those risk folks sure know how to let their hair down.

Meanwhile, during her many years being wined and dined by the insurance industry, Penny has sampled the delights of some of London’s finest restaurants. However, a recent visit to a pub in Pimlico with some chaps from Direct Line Group threw up (no pun intended) the most bizarre culinary concoction to have passed one’s lips so far. It was with no small sense of trepidation that Penny tucked into the pub’s famous ‘Elvis Burger’ – and while the peanut better made for a surprisingly scrumptious addition, the fried banana proved a tad overpowering. One will stick to the more traditional cheese and bacon topping in future.
