Who has moved where in the world of insurance this week.

Insurers

Aon
Malcolm Tyler has joined Aon Risk Solutions to lead its global cargo practice. Tyler joins from Willis where he held the role of executive director. He will be responsible for leading the global cargo team, working in conjunction with the global marine leadership on the development and execution of Aon’s marine strategy.

Allianz
Colin Bates, Allianz’s Midlands and South West regional manager, will be retiring
from the business with effect from 30 September 2015. Bates has had a longstanding career with the insurer, having started at its head office in Guildford in 1997. In 2003 he made the move to Birmingham where he took on the regional manager position. Jason Howes, who is currently development manager based in Birmingham, will take over the reins from Bates effective 1 October.

BLP Insurance
Residential and commercial buildings defects insurer BLP Insurance has hired Craig Parfitt as chief operating officer. In his new role, Parfitt will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of key business initiatives as well as driving forward key industry partnerships. Craig will also undertake the role of financial controller. He joins from Deutsche Bank where he was managing director specialising in financial management, operational excellence, transformational change and project management.

Chaucer
Chaucer, the specialist Lloyd’s insurance group, has hired Kelan Hunt as energy practice head at Chaucer Syndicate 1084. He will be responsible for the strategic leadership of the energy practice. Hunt was previously senior
vice-president, head of energy at Arch Insurance Group.

Brokers

Lockton
Lockton has appointed Elaine Owen as a senior vice-president, based in Manchester. Owen brings over 34 years of experience in the market, most recently from Bluefin as regional strategic accounts director for the corporate division in the North, and head of Bluefin North. Shilling
Shilling, Arthur J Gallagher’s specialist employee engagement and communications consultancy, has hired Shan Chatoo as associate client director. Chatoo has been a senior HR communications specialist for nearly a decade and joins Shilling with experience in a variety of industries.

Cega
Travel assistance firm Cega has made three new appointments to strengthen its market-facing capabilities. Jody Baker, formerly of Cigna, has been named commercial director, Neil Matthews, previously of the Collinson Group, has been named business development manager and PWC’s Gaynor Maunder has been made marketing manager. Accountants

MDD Forensic
MDD Forensic Accountants has hired Damian Lawrence to expand its UK property and casualty insurance team. In his new role, Lawrence will assume responsibility of further developing MDD’s role in the London insurance market and to reinforce MDD’s expertise in global claims handling. Lawrence began his career in 1997 and has worked in the insurance industry for over 15 years. In his last role he worked as a senior member of the management team, running a forensic accountancy consultancy division for a leading global provider of risk management services in Sydney, Australia. Prior to this, Lawrence worked as an accountant for Capita McLarens and Crawford & Company in the UK.

DAC Beachcroft
DAC Beachcroft has made changes to its senior management team. Virginia Clegg will be the firm’s new senior partner, taking over in the role from Simon Hodson. David Pollitt will be the firm’s new managing partner, replacing current incumbent, Paul Murray. Both new appointments will take effect from 1 November. Clegg is currently the regional senior partner for Leeds and a member of the DAC Beachcroft board. Pollitt , who will be based in London, is currently sector head for insurance, chairman of the Claims Solutions Group and an executive board member.

Price of tower block insurance finally slashed

Insurance premiums for leaseholders waiting for combustible material to be removed from their blocks of flats could plummet by up to two thirds following the launch of the Association of British Insurers’ Fire Safety Reinsurance Scheme today (13 March), according to Axa.
