Service and the shift towards digital technology in the general insurance market were discussed in a lively webinar session hosted by Post and LV this week, which is now available to watch.

LV commercial director Mike Crane, One Answer Network managing director Norrie Erwin and Alexander Millar MD Melanie Hampton joined Post's deputy editor Mairi MacDonald to share their thoughts and respond to questions posed by remote attendees of the live debate.

Tuesday's event followed publication last October of a four-part research project, State of the Broking Nation, which collated the results of surveys with 20 senior general insurance brokers on a range of topics including their views on insurers, regulation, politics and professionalism.

The webinar focused on two prominent themes from the survey; how digital technology is shaping the sector, and service. Respondents to the survey held very different views on what digital technology means for the broking sector and the extent to which they felt it has brought improvements - and this was borne out during the webinar, too.

The panel also found much to discuss on how technology has impacted service levels within the sector and insurers' ability or willingness to pay claims in what was a far-reaching debate.
