Penny Black's Insurance Week - 6 February 2014

penny-black

Allianz has been employing some sneaky sponsorship techniques, Penny learnt this week.

The German insurer plasters its logo on the shirts of London rugby club Saracens, but it’s not the only insurer to do so. After all, Saracens play in the Aviva Premiership. So, how to make sure Allianz is the brand implanted in the mind of the viewer in a TV interview? Stand a rugby player side on, and make sure that the sleeve with the Norwich firm’s logo faces away from the camera.

Very shrewd.

Meanwhile, Laurent Matras has returned to Axa after nine months out of the industry, but if he only started negotiating with Le French insurer at Christmas, then Penny wondered what Matras has been up to. The answer, her moles tell her, is that he was reassuringly busy. Matras spent his petit break from the insurance industry in the south of France, indulging his passions. First up, a class on motorcycle engineering for the gearhead within. And next, a quick dash to the patisserie for a cookery class. With such a well‑rounded education, it’s little wonder brokers speak so highly of Matras.
