QBE Italia has broadened its services to include primary and excess director's and officer's coverage and will cover professional indemnity liability in the coming months.

To lead its new D&O liability insurance offering, QBE Italia has appointed Silvia Garlasché as senior underwriter reporting to Piero Asso, general manager for Italy.

Prior to joining QBE, Ms Garlasché worked at Marsh, which she joined in 2000. Initially she worked within Finpro, mainly broking D&O liability, professional indemnity, crime, employment practices liability and fine arts. In 2004, she took over full responsibility for the Marsh Finpro general department in Italy and also became a member of the London-based European D&O advisory board.

Mr Asso commented: "The appointment of Silvia Garlasché and the expansion of our offering to include D&O liability demonstrate QBE's growing strength in the Italian market.

"We have a distinctive approach within this market, which is based on a continuous dialogue with clients, healthy appetite for risk and strong partnerships with brokers. We believe this will allow us to successfully seize new business opportunities."
