Engelhardt tops Sunday Times insurance Rich List

Admiral's Henry Engelhardt, pictured, was the insurance industry’s top player in this year’s Sunday Times Rich List, with a total worth of £528m, down £120m from last year. He came in at 156th place, down from 120.

Esure backer Peter Wood came in second in the insurance league table at 164 in the Rich List, with his star in the ascendancy as he rose from 457. His worth was put at £500m, up a staggering £350m.

CCV and Towergate backer Peter Cullum came in third place in the insurance league at 197 in the Rich List, down from 178, with a static worth of £450m.

BGL founder Douw Steyne and family take fourth place in the insurance league coming in at 212 on the Rich List, down from 221, with a total worth put at £420, up £60m. Steyne quit BGL in February.

Brian Scowcroft and Janet Lefton, former owners of Swinton Insurance and now in property, are at 460 on the Rich List, down from 429 at a static £162m. They made £150m from selling Swinton.

Former Equity Red Star boss Neil Utley, now at Hastings, is just two places behind at 462, down from 430, with a total worth put at a static £160m.

Homeserve chief executive Richard Harpin, who has seen the value of his stake in the firm hit by recent misselling woes, dropped from 410 to 551 in the Rich List as £22m was wiped from his total worth, taking him down to £148m.

  • 785 (751) Keith Morris, Sabre, £95m
  • 785 (751) Hayley Parsons, Go Compare, £95m
