Swiss Re full year net income rises to $4.2bn

Swiss Re posted net income of $4.2bn for the full year 2012, driven by strong profitability in property and casualty reinsurance and strong investment result.

The reinsurer's net income from property and casualty business totalled $3bn, an increase of $1.9bn on the prior year, reflecting, among other things, a 21.6% increase in net premiums earned to $12
