The mudslide that is threatening homes in Southern California could cost homeowners nearly $5bn, First American Core Logic has said.

In the data provided by the modelling arm of US title insurer First American, a mudslde in the threatened areas of Altadena, La Canada Flintridge and La Crescenta-Montrose has an insured value of $4
