Artificial or real? It’s a decision that needs to be taken over the Christmas tree, and most people have a preference.

Some are put off by the mess that needles dropping from a real tree can create, but, according to official advice, this can be avoided if you keep them watered.

Mrs Policyholder followed this advice, keen to keep the dropping needles off of her thick pile carpet.

However, one day close to Christmas, and trying to get through her list of endless tasks, Mrs Policyholder watered the Christmas tree from the top, causing almost £2000 of damage to the presents lying beneath it.
