FOS blames claims management firms for rise in PPI complaints

The Financial Ombudsman Service has raised concerns over claims management companies taking advantage of problems in the payment protection insurance market to bring often spurious complaints.

According to figures published in its latest annual review, the FOS received 49 196 PPI-related complaints between 1 April 2009 and 31 March 2010, compared to 31 066 a year earlier, a 58% hike.
