Bermuda market 'risk capital' say industry leaders

The future of Bermuda as a provider of alternative risk solutions for risk managers is assured according to Paul Markey chairman, Aon, Bermuda. Speaking at the Risk and insurance management society event in San Diego he said that the island’s insurance business had changed and evolved to ensure it would remain a key market for the future. Brian Duperreault, CEO, ACE, commenting on the success of the Bermudan market said that the aftermath of September 11th proved what a robust business it was. “The reponse to the tragedy, where a quick decision was made to bring capacity into the world insurance market is what really earned Bermuda the title of ‘risk capital of the world”, he said.

He went on say that the island has got the right mix of infrastructure and sound regulatory systems to make a sustainable business environment. “The mix of capital, speedy and effective licencing
