Hurricane Wilma predicted to reach Florida by weekend

On the evening of Wednesday 19 October, Hurricane Wilma reached a top speed of 160 mph, topping the threshold for a Category 5 storm, writes Lauren Cole. The hurricane was earlier that day predicted to cause devastation to south-west America, at that point lurking over the Caribbean Sea, ready to enter the Gulf of Mexico, about 235 miles (380km) south-east of Cozumel, Mexico.

Although Hurricane Wilma weakened slightly to a Category 4 wind on Thursday morning, with top speeds reaching 155mph, forecasters are predicting it will strengthen and that the Hurricane will reach
