Investment returns lift Munich Re 1Q to record high

Munich Re has returned a record operating result of €1,234m for the first quarter, beating a high of €945m in the same quarter last year (Last year’s figures in brackets). The reinsurance segment contributed €841m (€604m) to the consolidated result and saw a modest increase in property-casualty reinsurance premiums to €4bn.

At €1,055m the reinsurance investment result was once again highly significant. Net gains on the disposal of investments rose by 31.9% to €434m, as the group took advantage of the favourable stock
